Position is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled construction activities in such areas as concrete, structural steel erection, welding, millwrighting and carpentry. 

Duties include:  constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools, conforming to local building codes; smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds; raising, placing and uniting girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks. 

Incumbents may serve as a lead to Construction Workers or Laborers in the absence of a Job Foreman or Job Superintendent. The Skilled Construction Worker is the third level of an eight-level construction series.  The Skilled Construction Worker is distinguished from the Construction Worker by the skill and experience level required to perform tasks in three specialized trade areas.  The Skilled Construction Worker is distinguished from the Job Foreman which has responsibility for coordinating tasks within a project and serving as a lead to construction crews.
